Room Air CleanersNot all air cleaners or air purifiers are the same. There are two types of air purifiers, one that use a media filter and the electronic air cleaner. With the media air filter, a fan moves air through a filter which captures the impurities in the air. Some of these air cleaners are multi-stage, meaning then may have a pre-filter or a post filter in addition to a HEPA filter. HEPA, High Efficiency Particle Accumulator, may capture 99% of the pollutants moving through the filter. Generally, HEPA style air cleaners will have a pre-filter that captures larger particles leaving the HEPA filter to capture what is left. The pre-filter needs to be changed more often than the HEPA filter. Cleaning is simple, just remove and replace the filter. Electronic air cleaners operate differently. A fan will pass air through the a metal grid, charging particles with a positive ion, then when the positively charged particle passes through the grid, it attaches to the negatively charged portion of the grid leaving clean air behind. Cleaning a electronic air cleaner is more difficult as the grid needs to soak to loosen the particles and you have to be very careful not to break the charging wires. Honeywell Home Environment Products are leaders in their respective categories. Our 99.97% TrueHepa air purifiers are treated as the gold standard in Air Purification by allergists.
